We know that the minute you get your new posting, there are a thousand questions you need to find answers to, likely in a place you’ve never visited. Although we are not technically near to an army base, we are surrounded by sites which are well used by the army;
and further afield, Boscombe Down, Bulford and ATR Winchester.
Finding a place for your child/children, especially where you have 2 year groups to contend with, can often be tricky and you may not even know quite yet what your final address may be. It’s likely you may have had some first-hand recommendations but it’s always worth a chat with the Headteacher and, where possible, a look around because schools change so much between postings and what suits one family, may not necessarily suit another.
You will need to follow the ‘in-year admissions’ procedure which can be found here on the HCC webpages. The way that army families apply for school places annoyingly differs from authority to authority so please do ensure you read through the page and contact us if you have any queries.
If you don’t have your new address yet, please do contact us for more advice. We can’t circumnavigate the system but we can give you some practical tips on what to do!
VERY IMPORTANT: We are mindful of the Army Covenant, which is in place to ensure no army family is disadvantaged by the fact that they are mobile. This is especially important if your child is referred to CAMHS or any other outside agency. Please do be in touch if this applies to your child so that we can make the transition as smooth as possible for you all.
