Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to help improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England.

There are three main types of Pupil Premium funding:

1. Service Pupil Premium
For children whose parents are serving in the regular armed forces, or who have left the forces in the last six years. Funding for 2025–26: £350 per pupil

2. Free School Meals (FSM) Pupil Premium
For children currently eligible for free school meals due to financial hardship. This also applies to any child who has been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years. (This does not include children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 who receive universal infant free school meals.) Funding for 2025–26: £1,515 per primary pupil

3. Looked After or Previously Looked After Children (LAC/PLAC)
For children who are in the care of the local authority or who were previously looked after. Funding for 2025–26: £2,630 per pupil

Although this funding is linked to individual pupils, it is not a personal budget. Schools can use it flexibly to raise standards and improve outcomes for eligible children, and also to support other pupils who may face disadvantage, such as those with a social worker or young carers.

At Smannell & Enham CE Primary School, 8% of our pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium funding in 2025–26. We use this funding carefully to ensure all our children have the best possible opportunities to thrive and succeed.
