Robins Class - EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2

Robins Class is taught by Mrs McManus and brings together children in Early Years (Reception) and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2). With a small class size, we are able to know every child well and provide the right support and challenge for each of them. Learning is carefully planned to ensure clear progression in both skills and knowledge, building strong foundations and enabling children to grow in confidence as they move through the school.

At the start of the new term, families will receive home learning sheets and curriculum overviews to share what the children will be covering in class. Phonics and early reading are a key focus for us in Robins, and we actively encourage parents to be involved in supporting this at home. Weekly home learning linked to phonics and reading will be sent out so that children can practise and consolidate their learning with your support.

Below is an overview of what your child will be learning this term, along with how we adapt the curriculum to meet the expectations of each year group. What is my child learning in Robins – Autumn 1 – 2025

Robins Tackle the Great Fire of London!

Through a hands-on, practical approach, pupils have explored how and why the fire spread, what life was like in 1666, and how the city was rebuilt afterwards. They have become historians, builders, and problem-solvers — constructing their own model of London before working collaboratively to explore how the fire could be stopped. From using guttering and sponges to transport water and “extinguish” the flames, to sequencing events and learning about Samuel Pepys’ famous diary, the children have shown incredible curiosity, teamwork, and creativity. Here are some photographs of our Robins problem solving and putting out their fires!
